Wellness is a way of life

Be it journaling feelings, observing gratitude, even listening to music or sitting in meditation. Ask a sportsperson, it may be practicing karate katas or shooting basketball hoops.

One truly aspires and achieves a sense of Wellness with everyday choices… When one feels good in their inner and outer world.

When I made some inroads into my personal journey to wellness and wellbeing, I was inspired to help others shift too.

I was in my mother’s womb when my parents began building a health care centre. I have watched them nurture their dream project as an infant. That’s probably where I also started getting influenced.

Getting older, I witnessed their dedication to helping adults improve their lives through wellness activities. This was a dinner table conversation and their efforts featured in my bedtime stories too. I am lucky to experience this as an individual and as a family, early on.

In school, I am grateful for the teachers who were welcoming, non-judgmental and supportive. Their encouragement helped me evolve from a shy child, into a confident IG Captain (head boy) in the 10th standard. They have nothing but respect for the role they played in shaping my personality.

For a long time, I grew up thinking that only adults need wellness.
Us kids? We are so sorted.

Growing up is messy

Experiences, good and bad, build our persona. My childhood was not ideal. I have been a victim of bullying, peer pressure and online defamation, which got me off guard. Navigating the world of social media in my early teens was also overwhelming. There was no handbook to refer to. Like any other growing child, I faced a few tough days. But I chose to not let it define me. I took charge of my emotions, sought help and recalibrated my inner compass.

It got me thinking: Why wait till I am an adult to work on my wellbeing. Unknowingly, I had imbibed tools and (some) good habits by observing my parents and my teachers.
I was eating better, sleeping on time (well, mostly) and had experienced the importance of relaxing my mind and power of movement. I felt awesome. Whenever going got tough, I tried to recalibrate myself with various activities. This quickly translated into more energy, better focus and stress management. School or life stuff was not bothering me as much, because I could plough it into positive shifts.

Often, I also found myself to be a confidant for friends.

My growing-up environment made me aware of my inner compass

That’s when I wondered

Why is the need for wellness only for grown-ups? Kids could use this stuff, too.
Kids are adults in the making, and if we have the right resources to navigate emotional storms, we’ll have an early start.

I had had my Eureka moment: For kids, along their ride into their teens and young adulthood, wellbeing is the secret sauce that ensures we’re growing up with a strong, steady sense of wellbeing.

At our stage and age, wellness is a whisper that must be encouraged into a conversation that expands into a community that thrives in a safe space.

It’s time to lighten our backpacks. I am excited to have you join me in this movement. Buckle up! There’s lot in store for you.
